15th-16th century gambesons

In the 15th-16th century gambesons are much shorter than the earlier ones, and resemble doublets. This is why you can encounter other names for gambeson: arming doublet or jacket (padded jack). The stuffing is still fleece (unprocessed wool), but there are also gambesons without any stuffing, but with additional layers of material instead. Quilting also had changed at that time - people sewed all layers or only several inside. In the mid-15th century there were chainmail elements added to gambesons - first only on top of the fabric, later between the layers. Another kind of gambeson appeared: a perforated one, without chainmail rings added to it. At the end of the 15th century gambesons with decorative elements appared. These decorations were puffed sleeves or leather stripes. Additionally, there were more and more different materials used to make gambesons. The offer of Kokosh’s Manufacture includes all of them.
