
Medieval headwear was very important for medieval female clothing. Depending on the social status, medieval headwear was more or less ornamental. Many types of medieval headwear earned popularity: coif, hood, cape, headscarf, hat, chaperon. There are medieval illustrations of women witout any headwear - usually young girls, unmarried women and women from aristocratic families. The last group had their hair plaited with floral decorations and jewelry instead of wearing headwear. The most common medieval female clothing included headwear, though.
