Medieval outdoor clothing for men

Medieval outdoor clothing for men was a sign of status, not just a way of covering the body. Its decorative value and beauty reflected a man’s social position. Medieval fashion was not as dynamic as the modern one, but it was changing considerably. Early medieval loose-fitting trousers, changed into in the 13th century hoses, that evolved into trousers again, but this time closer fitting. Loose fitting medieval shirts in the 10th century changed design in the 13th century, when the so-called cotte were popular. Upper body medieval clothes became significantly shorter and closer fitting in the 14th century, in the times of doublets. The 15th century clothing was back to loose fitting and long clothes, houpelandes and robes.
