Medieval outdoor clothing for women was not only worn for practical reasons: it also had significalnt aesthetic value. The beauty of medieval clothing for womenreflected the women’s social status. Medieval fashion was constantly changing, not as fast as our fashion, but significantly. The medieval dress designs had been changing considerably during the middle ages and rennaissance. Initially, the middle ages dress was rather loose-fitting, later it became closer fitting. And at last it came back to the previous pattern, but in a more fanciful version. Obviously, the changes in medieval fashion concerned mainly high social class. In lower classes and among peasants, fashion changes were slower and occured much later. We can find both high class medieval attire and peasant clothing in illustrations from the middle ages.
