Medieval underwear for women

Medieval underwear for women was a very important part of medieval female clothing. It protected human body against hot as well as cold weather. Medieval underwear was also a layer of clothes that often helped surviving in itchy medieval gowns and dresses. Medieval underwear for women consisted of long sleeved or sleeveless tunic. It is debatable, but possible, that women wore a kind of underpants and garters (used to keep stockings up) at that time. Medieval underwear in peasant clothing was usually made of linen. High class medieval underwear on the other hand could be silk or smoothly woven, thin wool.
